The Purples series by Ace Dismukes and produced by Essembly Studios, follows three Sun-Spirits originating the mystical Violet Sun. Their mission centers on exploring and safeguarding the Omniverse. A spinoff comic, 0.1 Seconds, expands on this lore by delving into the Violet Sun's origins and deities that existed before the Omniverse. The series developed from early 2019 to mid-2020.

Plot

The Purples Series follows three powerful Sun-Spirits—Voida, Enda, and Widck—who emerge from the Violet Sun to explore and protect the Omniverse. As they explore the Omniverse, they are bombarded against Yamoner, who seeks to destroy all of creation.

0.1 Seconds Plot

The spinoff comic 0.1 Seconds delves into the backstory of The Purples series.

Production

Between 2019 and 2020, The Purples initially revolved around its titular character, Widck, portrayed as an invincible protagonist without weaknesses. By 2021, the series evolved into a larger-scale space adventure, introducing three spirits born from the Violet Sun, tasked with defending the multiverse against various threats. Originally posted on Essembly Studios' YouTube channel, the series introduced characters like Firefloura and ShrikenBalloon, but much of this content was either lost or made private. A trailer promoting the series appeared on Aren Selmane's alternate account, but was unlisted.

As development continued from 2022 to 2024, The Purples transformed into a more expansive show with the addition of a comic adaptation. In 2023, a spinoff comic titled 0.1 Seconds was launched, delving into the origin of the Violet Sun. Originally called "The Purpleless," the title changed for clarity. A concept for a special focusing on Widck, Enda, and Voida exclusively was also scrapped.

Animation was created using Sticknodes Pro, a versatile stick-figure animation app by Ralph Damiano, and supplemented by OpenToonz for more expressive scenes. In 2024, production halted due to a device failure, shifting focus to the comic adaptation. Lost or damaged media required significant asset recreation. Throughout development, characters and concepts were adjusted or removed. For instance, Fireflora, initially considered for Yamoner's design, ultimately influenced Whoher instead, while some ideas evolved into later characters, like The Creweless, inspired by controversial YouTubers.
